Can you tell that your Blog Meister has been finishing up projects? Here’s another one…what could have been a felted handbag turned into an iPad carrying bag, complete with a felted inside pocket for the cords. This was inspired by Lynda’s Felted Handbag Classes and some yummy Noro Bonbori I had (94% wool, 6% nylon).
I had been fretting about the felting part because I have a front loading washing machine, with no agitators, and low water usage. In other words, nothing is immersed in water, nor is it bashed around much, both of which are important in the felting process. So, I put the bag in a zippered pillowcase cover, and added about six of those nubby plastic dryer balls (three inside the bag itself), to give the necessary friction. I tried one cycle of hot wash and cold rinse. No felting. So, back it all went into the washing machine, on the “Sanitize” cycle which uses “Extra Hot” water and a long wash cycle (still a cold rinse though). Perfection! Thank goodness…I was having visions of a bucket and a plunger…
